The Scott Brown Factor

If you have any sense of current events at all- then you've heard of the special election being held today in Massachusetts. Yes, yes, we're aware of the stakes, the precious health care (or death care, as I like to facetiously call it) vote, etc... but this is so much more than that. This is about the Republican party returning to their roots. Edmund Burke, one of the historical philosophical founders of the GOP, in my opinion, has long been tossed aside. We are no longer, as a party, concerned with challenging an overwhelming majority, or conserving the ideals of which this very country was founded upon...and for this, I say, "We have lost our way." The bread crumbs our leaders have consciously sprinkled along the way have been moved or lost by BOTH the men and women serving the Democratic party, but even more disturbing, those who lead our own.

I assume, at this point, I'm being called a traitor by the uber-rightists and the like. To this I say- to be blinded into cementing our feet into the sides of issues, is in itself, anti-Conservative...so maybe, the pot is calling the kettle black. I am 23 (yikes) years old, I am a female, I am from the state of Indiana, and I am working towards a graduate degree.... let's face it, statistically, I'm a miracle in itself for siding ideologically with the conservative population. Maybe I should be given the Nobel Peace Prize. (a JOKE! For I am CLEARLY unqualified...which, ironically, makes me perfectly qualified.) But I believe.

I do not believe in the Christian-right pushing ideology over policy. The truth is, religion is a private thing. Yes, there are arguments to be made that Christianity is the basis by which our laws are made, and I am inclined to agree that there is truth in that claim. However, the issue that I have, is how the GOP heads have been making a very provocative bedtime game with the Pat Robertson's of the world. No, Pat Robertson is not a terrible person to my knowledge, but he is trained to produce Christian speaking vegetable cartoon movies, not being a major factor in how a political party operates. Bottom line.

So how does Scott Brown factor in? As Rousseau would say, "let us put the facts aside, for they have no bearing on the question." I'm a big fan of blatant honesty...Scott Brown isn't anyone special. He hasn't written political commentary, he isn't in rehab, he's not a known murderer (OUCH... Stab to old Teddy right there!); he's an average Joe. He's a family man. He served his country. He is like you. He is like me. He wants to take politics back to the people, and this is the very factor that I think makes him both appealing and successful. Pragmatically, this wins votes.... and logic tells us.... that votes win elections.

Every candidate from here on out should adopt this mentality- the "Everyman." Whether you are an already elected official, or an aspiring one... take a moment to remind yourself who you are and what you represent. This is what my generation wants... genuine people, offering genuine promises. This is where Obama can learn from the Scott Brown factor. The Messiah has campaigned, (and had to, might I add, to cover up lack of experience) as a larger than life, promise making, superman. He is not like you. He is not like me. He makes promises he is incapable of following through with- and has long since forgotten how to be himself. Who is that really? (A question I have been trying to answer for almost two years now.) When a candidate does not know his or her own heart... they are incapable of promising you things to make yours feel safe.

Good Luck Scott Brown, the PEOPLES choice. Genuine Promises. Genuine Results.

Tune in for more genius words from the one and only.... Kami Mueller.

  1. I would agree that Scott Brown is the People's choice. I anxiously await the results today. Whether he wins or loses, his candidacy is a major statement. It tells our representatives to represent us. It does not tell them to "do what is best" for us. Let us decide that personal note. I do not like 'the what is best for us' being jammed down my throat...behind closed doors, with deal after deal involving our money being made. Why don't "our representatives" get it? Excellent post kami!
