So here we are, in my twenty-third year, a creature of habit--- and a young woman who values character over the many flakes of the world. I'm a woman who values the simplicity in repetition, and a special reverence for the way things used to be. Frank Capra, a genius filmmaker during the 30's and 40's, is the brilliance behind two of many of my favorite movies from that era. The first, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. He is quoted of saying, "When i see a crowd, I see a collection of free individuals: each a unique person: each a king or a queen: each a story that would fill a book: each an island of human dignity." I suppose that quote explains in better detail why I decided to jump, or leap rather, into the world of blogging. My story, mundane and usual, may have the capacity to impact a life. And who am I if I guard myself from the world?
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, a story of the brilliance of the American character. Jeff Smith, the main character, director of the "Boy Rangers," takes Washington by storm with idealistic values, and furthermore, the refusal to let anyone break him. This is the movie every U.S. Congressman should sit down a watch monthly, to renew their spirit and dedication to the country we all hold so dear.
I suppose this is as good a time as any to explain why these things are important to me. I graduated in 2009 with a BA in Political Science, and am currently halfway through my Masters program, also in Political Science. So, the American way, or, the people's way, is so vital to my work, to my efforts in law and research on political campaigning. I live for the renewal of the American spirit and those who stand for THE RIGHT WAY. That's what this blog will be about; American ideals, the path to American success, and candidates and office holders that encompass what makes it feel to be an American.
So, happy birthday to ME! I make a toast to a year filled with friends of substance, faith in something bigger than my capabilities, and to pledging to never quit. Mr. Smith, you are THE American, and the fire that reminds me to fight.
